THE CULT OF BEAUTY & THE SURREAL WORLD
ode to brutalism
When the opportunity to design a collection of wall coverings, fabrics, and rugs for the esteemed Parisian house Pierre Frey presented itself, inspiration lit up inside me like a spark. Indeed, our in-house atelier had become a thriving hub for the decorative arts. We envisioned the textiles as a modern reinterpretation of the famed Cult of Beauty, a celebration rooted in the Aesthetic Movement of the late 19th century. This was our chance to fully indulge in the richness of our creative expression.
For years, our work had embraced Maximalism, where boundless inspirations converged. To channel this abundance for Pierre Frey, we curated a traditional book—a collection of everything that sparked our imagination. Though an ambitious task, it would serve as a wellspring of ideas for years to come. To navigate this vast sea of inspiration, we needed a clear muse to guide our collection.
Maximalism is a celebration of various movements, manifestos, and epochs. I wanted to celebrate all of them. First, we designed faces of historical figures. I then showcased façades of our favorite architectural movements, pinnacle trees of our favorite landscapes, and most importantly, the dogs that garnered our studio. The result was an embarrassment of riches, all honoring the beauty this world has to offer.
